King David?

My mom got David a Biblical action figure for his birthday- David the Shepherd Boy. David loves it- he makes him play with his firefighters and police officer that my mom also got for him (beware of his shepherd's staff.) However, I think the figurine is really, really strange looking. I wish I didn't, but he/it is purple with fur lined boots and a ruby headband. It just makes me think that this David might have been on the prowl for Uriah not Bathsheba. Sorry mom! I even took a picture to prove it. You tell me, does it look like what you would imagine David from the Bible to look like or Elton John? I keep thinking the thing is going to belt out "Tiny Dancer" every time I pick it up.
I am thinking the Old Testament David probably had brown eyes, not blue. He probably looked much more like MY David!

Milestones

We have celebrated all of the regular milestones with Drew. Yet since he has the role of second born there are a few extras that have been almost as momentous as walking. They are as follows:
1. Being able to sit up in the bathtub. I don’t remember this being a big deal with David, all I remember is doing things like pre warming his towel and teaming up with Keith to sing songs while we diapered him. However, with Drew baths were really difficult before he could sit up. We had to do two separate bath times or be extra careful. There were several occasions when Drew almost drowned or David stood and peed on him. At around six months when he started to sit and play in the bathtub we all breathed a huge sigh of relief.
2. Being able to reach French fries from his car seat. Things get tough trying to work out two nap schedules, living further out, etc. Sometimes Happy Meals in the car are my best friend. And it’s really hard to wait until you get home. So, when Drew was around one, I silently celebrated that he was front facing in his car seat and that he could reach his big man paws out to grab an extra long fry while I drove. He is pleased with himself, David is usually halfway finished with a cheeseburger and voila! no mess at home. Never mind the crumbs in the car and the safety issues.
3. Being able to rub antibacterial on his hands. Now this milestone is really impressive. After getting the boys in their car seats after the park, zoo, etc. I put a squirt of sanitizer on their hands. I can tell Drew to rub it in and he actually does!!!
4. Being entertained by the Disney channel. We started Baby Einstein and Praise Baby months ago, this entertains one half of my boys. However, this weekend Drew sat on the couch and watched all of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse with David. I unloaded the dishwasher, made coffee, and put a roast in the crock pot. Three cheers for my one year old watching preschool television!

Happy Birthday David!!!

David turned three last week! As much as I want them both to be a little older and things to be easier, I felt a little sad that day. It really has gone by so fast- I can't believe this will be his fourth fall!
David is everything a three year old should be- he is happy, he likes new experiences, he plays well, loves sports and riding his trike and loves "his baby." It's amazing how if I just have David I can walk out the door without packing one single thing! He doesn't need diapers and can find a water fountain if he is thirsty.
We had a small birthday party for David and then went to the pumpkin patch a few days later. Our family had so much fun going on a hayride, doing the petting zoo and picking pumpkins. Drew thought every animal was a dog and David crawled in the chicken coop so that he could pet the chickens-kinda scary.
Today, David had his three year check up and Drew had his fifteen month check up. I always feel like it is a "mom test" for me on these well-child check ups. Am I feeding them healthy? Discipline? Sleep? Socialization? I tried to scrub both of their ears and I took extra care with their teeth. So they were irritated with me as we left.
Both boys are 95th percentile in height and 90th in weight, if that was a report card, I guess those would be "A's?" Good job, Nat.

Taste D and Cowboy Confusion

This past week I took David to "school." Actually, I just found a two hour drop off class with lots of movement that fits with our schedule. Oh, and since he is Captain Separation Anxiety, they said I can sit in a chair until he feels comfortable with me leaving. Since my mom nicely agreed to watch Drew, while I do this, things are a LOT easier!
David was very excited to go, especially since he knew I would not be leaving him. I did tell him that I was not going to sit with him, play with him, sing etc. Instead, I would stay in a chair and read the whole time. My last words to him were, "Have fun and obey your teacher."
He eagerly went in, and, during the first ten minutes looked back and grinned happily at me. After that, David did not care at all if I was there, but I promised I would stay and so I tried to read. At one point, I heard the teacher say, "Trace the Letter D and then you can go into the art room." Next I heard, "NO! David don't lick the letter." I kinda laughed to myself at my little weirdo and made a mental note to tell Keith. In relaying the story to Keith, he, of course, was quick to point out that David thought the teacher meant taste the letter, since he had never heard the word trace before. He was just doing what he thought he was supposed to do. Bless his heart. All in all he had a great time, the class was perfect, and I think he should be comfortable enough for me to leave him there soon!
As I mentioned above, Keith just gets David and is the perfect dad to him. We have kind of gotten in a habit of each taking a boy- Keith- David, Me- Drew. However, the older Drew gets the more I see that Keith and Drew will have the same great relationship that Keith and David have. In fact, although the Dallas Cowboys were playing, Keith ran upstairs when he heard Drew wake from his nap today. Keith then told me that he was explaining that they don't root for the Cowboys (OSU) on Saturday, but they do cheer for the Cowboys (Dallas) on Sunday. Drew looked so serious and was allowing himself to be held that I had to snap their picture. As soon as I took it he wriggled down and Keith solemnly told me that "these things are confusing for little babies."
