This post is for you Jess

So there are two reasons for this posting
1) Practice using my Flip Video. THANKS MOM!
2) My old pal Jess asked me some ideas of toys that were tried and true for her son's upcoming first birthday.
I love the Bilibo! (And no, this isn't a product giveaway blog. Leave a comment but you can't win one.) My mom and sister found these and got them for all four of the kids for Christmas 2007. The boys use them as garages, roll around in them, wear them as hats, jump over them, and toss balls in them. I keep toys in them and on snowy days in March (yup, you California girl, it's snowing here today) I get them out and laugh to see what the boys will do with them. So, add this to your ideas of toys that will last more than a few months and will entertain.

You bought what?!!!

On Saturday morning Keith dropped me off at the mall to do some shopping. He had a long punch list of errands and told me to take my time. I had trouble believing he could get it all done with both boys in tow, but wished him luck. When I finally heard from him, he asked if I could, "hang out there for another thirty or forty minutes" and that he had to run home. He said he had bought something huge and awesome and that he had only made it to Sam's. But he added, it was a really, really good deal. When I finally pried what it was out of him after learning he had to go home since the back of the car was open, he told me that someone had returned "El Gaucho" and that after letting the boys drive up and down the frozen food aisles he decided it was a deal too good to pass up. If you know Keith, you know he is a sucker for "open box" items at Sam's. They mark them way down yet you usually still can get a warranty or new parts.
I used to swear that my kids would never have a motorized vehicle- I felt it was a great way to help your children become obese. However, the complete looks of joy on their faces make me glad that I married someone who will every once in a blue moon abandon all of his usual frugalness and practicality for a monster truck with faux red leather seats.

29 years old and one week old and other stuff

So here is where my life is at this point- I turned twenty nine last week and what pictures do I have to post? Well, none of the birthday girl, since I am always holding the camera, and a TON of fire station birthday party pictures from my one of my best friend's son's third birthday party! Plus some St. Patrick's Day fun with my 1/8 Irish mom!
I got a video recorder device from my mom, so stay tuned for videos of the boys, but I need Keith to help me and, unfortunately, my birthday always coincides with March Madness.
My goals for my last year to be in my twenties? Party down, no, just kidding, that's impossible and impractical. Nope, I just want to start new hobbies and keep trying new things. I am a creature of habit, but you can teach an old dog new tricks. I don't ever want to be someone who lives to watch television or surf the Internet. Sometimes, I find myself rushing to put the boys to bed so that I can watch something like "18 Kids and Counting." And then I think about how odd that is that I am counting the minutes until my boys are in bed in order to watch a whole passel of other people's children.
At any rate, this year I plan to do more aerobics, plant a tomato/herb garden with David, and get more tech savvy.
Oh, and blog more about the founding members of Team Hudkins since I write primarily about David and Drew. They take up most of my time and attention, but it's sort of sad that I don't have any birthday pictures and our five year anniversary came and went without so much as a sentence!
For those of you that do read this to hear about the dynamic duo- here is one for you:
At the library David found an M&M's counting book. (I have one somewhere but it is in the attic.) Every night Keith and David play games in his room after bath since Drew goes to bed earlier. So I set everything up for them to do a counting/math activity on his train table. Well, Keith just came in and said, "I'm going to give that kid M&M's every night." David was talking a million miles a minute and working really hard to add and subtract with Keith all the while saying things like, "Oh I love you daddy, you are my best friend in the whole world, you make my heart so happy." When I went in to say good night David asked to see his "sleeping baby" so we snuck in to kiss Drew. I let David climb in and he adjusted Drew's covers and patted his cheek. He's always pretty fun at this time of night, but I wish I could freeze how sweet he was being. Guess I'll buy a mega pack of that candy at Sam's.
Oops, somehow this post turned out really random...

Bert and Ernie

At breakfast the other day, David started saying, "Hey, Ernie, Ernie how are you doing? Eat your breakfast Ernie."

"Is Drew Ernie?" I asked David.

"Oh yes mom, and I am Bert!" David replied.

I guess it stands to reason that David would pretend that they were these muppets. After all, they are brothers that eat together, hang out in the bathroom and enjoy adventures just like their counterparts on Sesame Street. I think I would prefer to be Ernie if I had to choose. Bert is kind of a dweeb- always yammering on about paper clips and pigeons. But then again, David probably just wanted to be the bigger, smarter one. Ernie is pretty goofy with his rubber duck and that weird laugh he does. Drew is just happy to play along with whatever David involves him in- he could be called Ernie, Rumplestiltskin, or Tina Turner, and, as long as David was playing with him he wouldn't care!
